who's behind the camera?

Olivia Yu is a Chinese-Canadian creative based in Vancouver, Canada. With her distinctive movie-like style paired with her unique expertise in photography, videography, design and management, she has established herself as a standout talent in the creative industry, offering a rare, all-encompassing approach to storytelling.

Her path has been anything but slow; in just five years, Olivia has evolved from a high school student to a sought-after leader and creative for industry giants, carving out a rare niche where young leadership meets artistic precision in some of the most challenging environments.

Her journey in the arts began in 2021 with a simple TikTok account she started with the goal of raising awareness for climate change and mental health among the youth. Through this, she developed a love for video editing and visual storytelling. By the 1 year mark of

Her post-secondary education began in 2023 with the BFA Film Production program at Simon Fraser University. She transferred to the University of British Columbia in her sophomore year and is now working towards a Bachelor's degree in Psychology specializing in Clinical and Personality Neuropsychology. Simultaneously, she is the Head of Media and Social Media Manager for the UBC Men's Volleyball team, Creative Media Director and Board Member of This Week In Van, and Photography Executive for The UBC Calendar.

At the end of the day, her #1 priority is —and always has been— to make the world a better place, whether through freezing fleeting moments so that more people can see it's beauty, or by being a calm, reliable team member during chaotic situations.

creating the account, the account had surpassed 40 thousand followers.

Moved by her new-found love of videography (and injury causing her to retire from sports), she joined her high school media design class. Here, she spent three years learning photography, videography and design, solidifying her fluency in Adobe Lightroom, PhotoShop, InDesign, Premiere Pro, and CapCut. She graduated as Chief Editor of her yearbook club, receiving many awards and scholarships largely fuelled by her contributions to the community stemming from this class, including the BC Achievement Scholarship. This marked the beginnings of another love; leadership.
